Yesterday the Books and Brunch classes of Queensborough Community College held our
BOOK AND AUTHOR LUNCHEON
Our guest speak was Marie Brenner, author and Writer at Large for Vanity Fair.
She came to talk about her newest book, a memoir called Apples and Oranges, about the relationship between herself and her brother, Carl.
We all gathered at Ben's Kosher Deli in Bay Terrace in Bayside for a delicious luncheon of soup, overstuffed sandwiches and dessert. The women of the group are for the most part seniors who love literature and attend classes each semester (the book titles change each semester) to enjoy lively discussions of each book.
Mary Tomaselli, who has been teaching the classes for 12 years, hosted the luncheon as she has since the luncheons began.
Brenner's talk went very well and a lively question and answer period followed. Jean Stern won the door prize which was a copy of The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz.
